Myskina set to miss Australian Open

January 1, 2007 - 5:44PM

Former French Open tennis champion Anastasia Myskina is set to pull out of this month's Australian Open after continuing to be troubled by a toe injury.
Myskina, the world No.16, has been upset 6-1 6-7 (4-7) 6-2 by unseeded Argentine Gisela Dulko in the opening round of the ASB Classic in Auckland.

The Russian, the WTA Tour event's second seed, was playing her first match since October and she needed treatment during the second set.
She completed the 1 hour 51 minute clash, but said afterwards that she was still troubled by pain in her toe.

She later told tournament officials she was planning to head back to Moscow, rather than to Sydney for next week's Medibank International.

"I realised during the match that I may not be ready for the Australian Open," the 2004 French Open champion said.

"I still feel pain there and it bothers me. Maybe I'm going to take a longer break."
